Ignitor won't light

  • Section: Ask_Pipey - Category: Air Conditioning and Heating

Dear FIT
Q: I Tried to turn on my furnace yesterday for first time this season. Hot surface ignitor (HSI) did not ignite. I Checked pressure switch, and Pulled the tube from leading pressure switch that comes from draft inducer.  I Felt no suction with inducer running.

Hello Sara,
A: It sounds like you may have something clogging the vents, Try checking the you HVAC systems vents pipes and see if you can see anyhing.

Dear FIT
This morning I checked the vents like you said, which are located on the house sidewall, and found bird nesting material packed in one of the vents. The vent makes a 90 degree turn. Any tips for cleaning nesting material from vent? I am thinking that the pressure switch is remains in the wrong position because the nesting material is restriction air flow.
Thanks.

Your welcome. Glad I could help you probably already know this, but just in case, make sure to change your filter every 30 days or so to keep to system from shutting down on a error.. (system lock out.) take care and stay warm..
